Show #49: Promoting Your Podcast
This 16-minute podcast will help you promote your podcast online and in the real world. Podcast promotion is about more than just your iTunes listing!
You can download the show right here or subscribe through iTunes.
Here are the show notes:
00:01 Intro and welcome
01:07 Thanks to Anna Farmery of the Engaging Brand for prodding me to produce a show on this topic
01:40 Name your podcast well (not like Donna!); think of memorable podcast names like Grammar Girl, Inside PR, Ask the Mortgage Guy, This Week in Tech or IT Conversations
02:50 Consider the look and sound of your podcast (album art and sound signature); Donna’s album art was designed by Branimir Zlamalik
04:03 Submit your podcast to iTunes, Yahoo Podcasts, Podcast Alley, Podcast Pickle and other directories
04:55 When you list yourself in directories, take care with your keywords and description
05:40 Join networks like Blubrry
06:12 Be sure to wrap a blog around your podcast
06:50 Post show notes; Google likes show notes and so do listeners
08:20 Take the time to educate potential listeners about podcasts
09:20 Use every opportunity to display your podcast’s URL; make sure everyone knows that you produce a podcast
09:45 Feedburner makes it easy to manage and publicize your podcast feed
11:11 Try a news release, but be sure it is targeted and newsworthy; Wiggly Wigglers won new listeners after being profiled in the mainstream press
12:30 Allow comments and encourage links; build a sense of community
13:07 All these promotion tips are worthless if you’re not producing a high-quality show
13:35 Where to send comments: email to trafcom AT gmail.com, call the comment line at 206-338-4200 or post a message to the Trafcom News Podcast blog
14:01 Comments on Trafcom News Podcast Show #48 from Amit Agarwal, Dr. Ginger Campbell, Luke Armour
15:30 Looking forward to a visit from Paull Young
Look for the Trafcom News Podcast on Blubrry.com
Theme music is “Beneath Your Surface” by the Elisabeth Lohninger Quartet from the Podsafe Music Network
UPDATE: In this show, I neglected to mention podcast promos (special MP3 files) to promote your show. I promise to cover this topic in a future edition!

I've always thought your podcast should be called "Donna Podacasta." The funny thing about Inside PR was that it was the name of a now defunct publication from Paul Holmes. It dawned on me about five minutes before the blog went live. He was happy to let us use his name.

I think you made an excellent choice with "Inside PR" for your podcast.
As for "Podacasta"-- HA HA. Mmmmm, maybe I can change my name legally? No one can spell Papacosta anyway!
