    Nonprofits reach out with podcasts

Adnews reported recently on the Canadian Salvation Army’s new Web site, which includes a weekly podcast. I think it’s a great effort and an inexpensive way to reach the Sally Ann’s target audience. One quibble: I wish they’d add little blurbs about the topic of each show.

Another nonprofit organization, the YMCA of Oakville, has stepped into the podcast pool. Technically their first foray into audio is not a podcast because there’s no subscription. Instead, it’s been set up as streaming audio. Future shows will most likely be true podcasts.

I’ve been working with the Y on this project, and it’s been very gratifying. The audio presentation allows potential donors to the Give Kids the Chance campaign to hear from the people who benefit from the fee assistance funded by the campaign. You’ll find the audio if you click on “Hear Our Stories” from the Oakville Y’s home page. I was humbled by the generosity of the parents who were wiling to share their stories.
